Packaging-related manufacturing shutdowns and layoffs appeared limited in North America in October, compared with prior months.
- Packaging Corporation of America on Oct. 1 disclosed plans to close a full-line plant in Middletown, Ohio. The company estimates all 91 employees would be affected, with most being laid off on Dec. 1.
- Supremex, a Canadian provider of paper packaging and envelopes, announced a restructuring plan on Oct. 6 that in part involves eliminating approximately 60 positions across the company, roughly 6% of its workforce. The company cited the need to “protect profitability” amid impacts to earnings from tariffs.
