- Greif plans to close its Sweetwater paperboard mill in Austell, Georgia, by the end of this year, which will end the company’s production of coated recycled paperboard. Layoffs for the 95 affected employees are slated to begin Nov. 16. Greif gained this site as part its 2019 acquisition of Caraustar, but this mill has proven to have “limited integration” within the company’s network and wasn’t competitive.
- McKinley Paper and Packaging Co. filed a worker adjustment and retraining notification with the state of California about the permanent closure of its facility in Cerritos. Nov. 30 is the first separation date listed for the 45 affected employees. McKinley is owned by Mexico-based paper and corrugated packaging manufacturer Bio Pappel.
