Packaging M&A activity appeared to tick up slightly in September after a slower summer. Catch up on the month’s deal announcements:
- Cleveland-based Adherex Group announced it acquired fellow Ohio company Polymer Packaging. Adherex specializes in adhesion solutions, while Polymer focuses on flexible, bakery and protective packaging products, serving customers in bakery, food, industrial and specialty manufacturing markets. Polymer will continue to operate out of facilities in North Canton, Ohio, and Allendale, Michigan.
- Food and beverage-focused private equity firm Butterfly Equity is acquiring Sabert. The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter. Financial terms were not disclosed. This is Butterfly’s second packaging acquisition this year.
- Lumson USA, the North American subsidiary of the Italian cosmetic packaging manufacturer, acquired New York-based Lombardi Design and Manufacturing, which specializes in cosmetic primary packaging.
- North Carolina-based Specialized Packaging Group acquired Texas-based DFW Crating & Packaging. DFW will continue operating under its name and from its facility in Grand Prairie, per the announcement. SPG is a portfolio company of private equity firm Altamont Capital Partners.
- Private equity firm New Water Capital acquired Florida-based LidWorks, a more than 40-year-old, family-owned manufacturer of custom food, beverage and specialty lids. LidWorks reportedly produces more than 2 billion hot and cold lids each year for use by quick service restaurants, convenience stores and other customers.
- Illinois-based PPC Flex acquired Koen Pack, a floral packaging specialist in the Netherlands. Earlier this year PPC Flex acquired the U.S. operations of German company Südpack. PPC Flex is owned by private equity firm GTCR.
